ANGIE

Latest Updates

Sweet Angie took a turn for the worst last week and had to be rushed to her Neurologist at Carolina Veterinary Specialists.  She had begun to walk and was showing great progress when she suddenly went backwards and was barely able to stand.    Dr Bergman was shocked when he saw her and decided he needed to do a Spinal Tap and other tests to narrow down what could be causing her symptoms.   Angie was fine when she was on her steroids but got dramatically worse when the steroids were reduced.

Angie's symptoms are now more in line with a Neurological disorder than something caused by the pellets near her spine.   We now believe she had walking issues before being shot and was SHOT because of her Neurologic issues.   We will never know, but that is more in line based on how she is now.   I am glad we did not do surgery on her because her condition would not have improved and could have paralysed her.

Dr. Bergman believes Angie has a degenerative disorder call GME.   Granulomatous Meningoencephalitis, which is an inflammatory autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. GME usually comes on very quickly and is life-threatening.   Granulomas, which are clusters of cells that form when the immune system tries to build a barrier against foreign substances, are a result of the inflammation.  Dr. Bergman started Angie on Cytosar, which is a chemotherapy Drug.  We have had good results before in other dogs with GME and hope to have success with sweet Angie.    Sophia is one of our GME dogs, and she is doing well on it.  While we are figuring this out, Angie will have to stay in Hospital being closely monitored for any side-effects and to check her blood values to make sure her body can handle the Chemotherapy.

Angie is a complete Lovebug that does not deserve all the bad luck she has had in her Life.  All she wants to do is give kisses and play.   Her one eye was damaged from the buckshot, and she is blind in that eye.   Angie does not have any problem navigating with her one good eye.   We know the Cytosar is not a Miracle Pill for GME but are hopeful it will give her a lot of good years where she can walk and run around and play.

We are still looking for the perfect home for sweet Angie.  She will make the best member of the Family and will shower you with love and affection.   She is not going to have a long Life, which is why we want to make sure she is placed in a loving home that will love her unconditionally until her final breath.

Angie has already been at Carolina Veterinary Specialists for a week and will be there for another ten days until Dr. Bergman is comfortable releasing her.  Please, help us with her Medical Bills so we can continue her treatments and make sure she gets the proper Medical Care for GME.   This is Angie's only chance at ever walking again, and we are going to make sure she gets it.

Thanks for caring and making her Journey to find Love, possible.
