CHARLOTTE, NC....We rarely get adorable pups like Chloe because they are always picked up and saved.    That was not the case with this cute, cute, cute bundle of Love.  She is a 13 week old Lab Mix the Specialist believes was thrown against a wall instead of being hit by a car.  I am not sure how they could determined that, but she has a tibial fracture that is very close to her growth plates.

Chloe was in the hospital and stabilized during the weekend until Dr. Michelle Nanfelt could access her condition.   During the evaluation the Radiologist discovered her break was almost too close to her growth plates to allow a plate to be put on.   We decided the best way to determine if this could be fixed was to have Dr. Nanfelt go in and determine that during Surgery.   If she could not plate the leg, she could still do some repair and diagnostics for later.

Dr. Nanfelt noticed some changes to the growth plate of the distal femur and distal tibia on the same leg (above and below the fracture) on pre-op images.    The images were sent to PetRays for diagnostics.  They suspect that the changes are either due to compression fractures of the growth plates or osteopenia from not using it.  If she has compression fractures at these sites, it may mean that her growth plates may not grow normally (or could grow partially on one side but not the other) and her limb length could be different or she could have some angulation to the limb as she continues to develop.  There is nothing we can do about it at this time, except seeing what happens over time and comparing the images today to the ones that will be taken at eight weeks post-op.

We did surgery on adorable Chloe's leg and were able to put a plate in.    The best news of all is that the leg is stable at this time with the plate.   Since Chloe is a young growing puppy that appears to be growing right in front of our eyes, we will be able to determine if she will have any issues with her legs not developing properly.    She will have to stay in her bandages until it is time to get her staples out.  At that time, her leg will be accessed for stability and any irregularities.

Cute does not even begin to describe this adorable puppy.   We are each having so much fun playing with her and loving her wonderful puppy breath.  She is going to be the delight of any Family.  She loves playing and will do it all day long if you let her.   By nightfall, she is exhausted and sleeps all through the night.   We know a lot of people are going to want to Adopt this cute puppy.  Please, put your Application in ASAP to be considered.   Chloe will be on restricted leash walks for the next month while her leg heals.

Puppies with injuries like Chloe's fall between the cracks all the time.  Everyone thinks they will be taken care of Medically because they are so cute.   That is far from the truth.   A lot of Good Rescues step up for them and then no one Donates toward their Medical Bills so the surgery can be done.    If the Rescue has already done the surgery, then they are strapped and eventually go out of Business for lack of funds.  All rescues need help when they step up to help an animal, not just us.    We have Chloe because the Rescue that grabbed her could not raise the funds for her surgery.   Please, Donate toward her bills.  ER Visits and Surgery cost thousands of dollar even after our big discounts and then there is Rehab on top of that.   Surgeons do not do this for free.   Someone has to pay the bills, or the hospitals will eventually cut you off.   My AMEX guarantees each one of these dogs, but that bill still has to be paid.

Cute pups still have big Vet Bills.  Please, Donate so we can help more pups like Chloe get the necessary surgery they need so they do not suffer the rest of their lives with deformed limbs or are PTS.   Don't sit back and think everyone else is Donating because they are not.   We have lots of pups we have taken in recently, and very little is coming in for their Medical needs.   Please, DONATE.
