GREENVILLE, SC......Imagine giving your Heart and Soul to one Family and then when your person dies, you are taken to the Animal Shelter to be euthanized.  That was the situation sweet Daphne found herself in.  She was named Bee Gee when we stepped up for her and decided she needed a sweet name to suit her personality.  When we stepped up for Daphne, they said she was a 14-year-old beautiful German Shepherd that had once had leg surgery and her metal plate was exposed and infected.   We made arrangements for her to be picked up and taken to CVRC in Charleston to be thoroughly evaluated and have the plate removed.  When she arrived, we were shocked at how sick she was.  She did have a metal plate that was exposed and infected, but she also had pneumonia.   She was skin and bones and could barely move around.   This beautiful dog was so sad and depressed that we weren't sure if she was grieving or had a lot of other issues going on.  Once the Specialists started working on her they soon realized in addition to pneumonia, she also has a mass on her kidney.   We have to get her over pneumonia first and then we can tackle everything else.

Daphne has been in ICU all week-end and appears to be improving.   The surgeon is planning on removing the metal plate tomorrow and is also going to do an aspirate of the mass on her kidney to see what it is.  Her appetite is pretty good but still has to improve for a dog her size.   One thing is for sure; she is getting lots and lots of TLC from everyone that is looking after her.

Everyone knows, my heart breaks every time I see an older dog abandoned or dropped off to be euthanized.   Animals love unconditionally.   All they care about is loving their person and doing whatever it takes to make them happy.   I am sure Daphne is devastated to no longer have the Love of her Life around to love and protect.  The person that she protected all these years is no longer around to protect her.   Well, we are going to be her new Person.  She doesn't realize it yet, but her Life has just taken a turn for the better.   We are going to take over now, and whatever she needs, she will get.   If the news comes back terrible and her days are numbered, her last days will be great.  The surgeons think she has several more years left to live.  We have to get her over each hurdle so we can determine what is best for Daphne.   For now, she is being loved and pampered in ICU while she recovers.   She has an Angel in Heaven that is watching over her and one on Earth that is making sure all of her needs are met.   Over the next week, her biopsy report will be back and hopefully her pneumonia will be gone.  In the meantime say lots of prayers for this sweet, sweet dog.  She deserves to feel better and know that her Life is not over.   Please, DONATE whatever you can to give Daphne the best possible chance of Surviving and Thriving.
