FULTON

Our dear boy went into surgery late this afternoon.  He had so much dead and necrotic tissue that the surgeons decided it was best to remove the areas that were causing him the most pain.  The areas that were removed were never going to have  viable  tissue because of the extensive damage.   Fulton came out of surgery this evening and is back in ICU resting comfortably.    He was very stable during the procedures.   His tail was removed along with his ear flap.   The surgeon did as much repair as possible on the inner part of his left ear.   There are still some necrotic areas that will be debrided as they heal.    Fulton's head is still very swollen and bruised.  I had him evaluated by a Neurosurgeon to make sure he does not have any brain injuries.   I am happy to report that he does not have any neurological impairment.

While Fulton was sedated for surgery, Dr. Au went over his body with a fine tooth to see if she could find any indication of what happened to this wonderful dog.   All signs point to someone physically torturing him with something.   I received photos this evening from Fulton County that were taken by either the officers that picked him up or the Garbage people that called Animal Control.   The pictures tell the saddest story and also show the exact spot where he was beaten and tortured.    I do not know more than that but do know the officers are investigating.    Fulton was found cowering in a corner behind a Garbage Container.   Not more than three feet away is blood where he was beaten.   The pictures are so upsetting that I decided it was best to post them tonight.   I have not seen a sadder sight in a very long time.  The see this sweet dog cowering and covered in blood made it hard for me to breathe.   I had to stop what I was doing and get a glass of water because the lump in my throat was making it difficult for me to catch my breath.   After about an hour, I was finally able to focus on what I was doing.

We are doing everything possible to show Fulton that he is safe and that nothing bad is ever going to happen to him again.   He is still very scared and cowers when he first sees you.   Everyone is taking it very slow, so he realizes that we are here to help him.  No one reaches into his kennel without allowing him to get comfortable.  He is heavily sedated for the pain but is still aware of everyone around him.   Only time is going to heal what some Monster did to his Heart and Soul.

Fulton is a fighter.  As scared as he is, he is still fighting to be here.   He could have given up a long time ago, and we would have all understood.   As long as he is fighting to be here, we are going to do everything possible to save him.   He will have to remain in ICU for another week until he is stable enough to be transferred.

Please, keep this wonderful little dog in your prayers.
