PETEY

Sweet Petey was moved to a Hospital where he can have continued Rehab.  He had continued to improve but is now at a place Neurologically where it is just going to take time and lots and lots of love.   He has gotten to the point where he can raise his head up and sit sternally. When he tries to walk unassisted, he stresses. The Orthopedic Surgeon repaired his fractured leg on Friday that we hoped will enable him to walk.  Only time will tell how well he will be able to walk with the left side deficit he has from his brain injury.   Given how he was when we rescued him, we are feeling very good about his prognosis.

Petey is very alert and as sweet as can be.   The swelling in his brain has almost all gone down.   The fact he is functioning is a Miracle.   He has already beaten the odds based on how severe his brain injuries were.  We will not know exactly how much of a deficit he will have for several months down the road.   Petey will need a very understanding and loving family given his history.   He acts just like every other dog and is sweet and loving.   The problems come in when his left side will not do what he thinks it should.  All he needs is a gentle hand to assist him walking and a hug to assure him that he is okay.  We think Petey would make a wonderful Family pet.   We have not seen any problems with other dogs.   Small children we do not recommend since he is unsure on his feet and quick movements scare him.  He has regained almost all of his sight back, but his focus takes a while to adjust.  If you think your Heart and Home would be perfect for this Gentle Soul, please, fill out our Adoption Application online so Petey can be home for Christmas.

We have still got extensive bills for our dear boy on top of his new fracture repair.  Please, help us with his continued medical care, so we do not get any further in the hole making sure he gets all his medical needs met.  Thanks for caring and being part of his Journey to Survive this horrible ordeal and to learn how to walk again.  He is a wonderful little dog that we have all come to love and adore.
