GREENVILLE, SC........SAM is a two year old Lab Mix that was picked up by Animal Control after being attacked by a much larger dog.  The other dog was euthanized due to how aggressive he was.  Poor Sam is almost starved to death.  I am sure he did not have much energy to defend himself based on how emaciated he is.  His neck, ear, face are all covered with serious bite marks.  It appears he has either been used as bait prior to this fight or has been attacked before because he has lots of old bite marks around his neck.  He is a sweet dog that is really fighting for his life.   He is anemic, needs lots of fluids and lots of medicine.  His blood and kidney panels are both abnormal.  Because of his emaciated state, his anemia and the fact he is covered with bite marks, we will be testing him for Babesia.  We end up with far more than our share of this horrible parasite because we take in so many bait dogs.  Babesia is spread by tics and is then spread by blood to blood contact when dogs fight.  That is the reason why so many bait dogs have the illness.  If not treated, the animals will die a horrible death and even when treated they still might die.  We are hoping SAM is just emaciated and sick from all he has been through and not from Babesia.  We will not know the results for several days.  Right now we have to do everything we can to help this wonderful boy.  He is incredibly sweet and loving and just wants someone to protect and love him.  He is really sad right now because his system is so compromised.  We are doing everything we can to turn this wonderful dog around.

Sweet Sam is not doing well at all and is in kidney failure.  We are doing everything medically possible to get him out of that and restore his kidneys.  Say lots of prayers for this incredible dog.  He is one of the sweetest dogs we have seen in a while and just adore him.

Sam is still in critical care.  We are doing a lot of new tests to see if we can identify what could be causing all of his blood and kidney problems.  He is such a sweet dog to be so sick.

Sam is improving.  His kidney values are better than they have been since we got him.  His liver enzymes are a little elevated but that is normal for what he has been through.

Sam is doing great.  All of his bloodwork is coming back normal and has been stable for a week.  We have one more test we are doing on him to rule out a tick born problem but al of his other test have come by normal.  Sweet does not begin to describe this dog.  He makes sweet, seem sour because he is so much more than that.  A beautiful Gentle Soul.  The vets thought he was two when he came in but I really think he is closer to 5 years old.

Sam is finally healed and is one of the most incredible dogs.  He LOVES everyone.  He would make a wonderful Therapy Dog.  The family that gets him will be the so in love with him.  He is sweet, gentle, kind, compassionate to everyone...old...young...dogs..cats, it doesn’t matter.   He is just happy to be alive and shows it with all of his wonderful kisses.
