Latest Updates

VIDALIA, GA.....Waylon is an adorable 6 month on Hound Mix with beautiful blue in his eyes that was found abandoned on the side of the road.  He had no identification and had numerous breaks to his jaw.   We were contacted by another Rescue in the area that needed someone to take over his care.  We have done quite a lot of extensive jaw and dental procedures so we agreed to help this beautiful pup so he could have as normal a life as possible.

When we first got Waylon we had him taken to CVRC in Charleston to have jaw surgery.  Unfortunately, our sweet boy had too many fractures and broken teeth into the root line that he needed a Dental Specialist to do the procedures.   The last time we got into something like this was with Marty, and that was well over $15,000. by the time we were done.  I thought we would never get that dear boy's mouth taken care of.  We learned a lot during that ordeal and also learned who not to use to do these procedures.

After lots of calls to Canine Dental Specialists, we finally found one that we felt confident could take care of Waylon's Jaw and his dental issues.  Canine Dental Surgery is a new Specialty, and there are not a lot of them in this Country.  His procedures were going to be complicated, and we did not want to have someone that did not fully understand how to do the repairs.   We finally picked Dr. Amy Stone with the University of Florida and felt confident she could handle everything that poor Waylon was dealing with.

Since South Carolina was getting ready to be hit by Hurricane Matthew, we had him transported to Gainesville, Florida where he rode out the Hurricane in the ER.  That way, all of his medical needs could be met without the fear of being trapped in a place without any way to evacuate.

Dr. Stone did extensive x-rays and pictures to show us exactly what was wrong and what the fix was.  We gave her the go-ahead to do whatever it took to put this sweet boy back together.   Waylon's tongue was the only part that was not damaged.   Waylon had seven teeth that have crown root damage.   Five of those teeth we so badly damaged they had to be removed.  The remaining teeth they were able to repair the tooth.   The right and left mandible were both fractured in several places.  The right mandible was crushed and had to have a splint made and wires put in.    The surgery was long and complicated.   Waylon is recovering while his jaw heals.  He will have to leave the splint and wires in until the jaw has reformed.   At that time, the splint will be removed.

For the Life of me, I do not know how this little pup could have so much damage and not be dead.  His jaw and teeth are shattered, and he does not appear to have any neurological problems or broken bones anywhere else.   We assumed he must have been hit by a car and then thrown in a ditch where he was left to die.  Since he does not have any other broken bones or head trauma, someone could have done this to him and then thrown him out a car and left him to die.  Whatever happened, it was very traumatic for this adorable puppy.   He is finally on the mend and is as sweet and adorable as he was the day we took him in.  Waylon is all puppy and wants nothing more than to play and run around.   He will be of soft food for the next month while his jaw and teeth heal.  He is one Lucky Pup.  The Angels must have been there to protect him.

Waylon's Medical bills are going to be quite extensive.  Please, Donate whatever you can so we can see this through to the end and get him well.   Thanks for caring and helping us with dear Waylon.  We greatly appreciate your Love and Support.
