MONTICELLO, GA......An emaciated 18 month old sweet Staffordshire Terrier named BLU walked into the wrong neighborhood looking for help.  What should have been a good thing for this abused animal soon turned into a nightmare that almost killed him.  Animal Control in Jasper County were called out on a 911 call to a home where a Staffordshire Terrier was being bludgeoned to death by 7 men with a shovel.   The story as it was relayed to us is that this starved dog was in someone’s yard.  They brought him inside and offered him food.  To a dog that it appears has not had food in a very long time, this was manna from Heaven.  The person that gave him the food had a small dog that came near Blu’s food bowl, Blu went after the dog not to hurt him but to get him away from his food.  From that second on, life forever changed for this sweet Staffordshire Terrier.  Blu was immediately put outside where the Husband and six other people proceeded to kick and beat him with shovels.  There was a panicked 911 call that went out to get someone to please help this wounded animal.  When the authorities were getting close to the home they saw an animal flying through the air with men bludgeoning him when he landed.  The men said he went after their two year old daughter, which was not the case.   The authorities questioned everyone around and the neighbors were scared to say anything for fear of retribution coming back to them.  This apparently is a dangerous area of town with lots of drugs.  The little girl is the one that when asked if the dog went after her she told the real story of how her Mom was going to feed the dog because he was starved.  She verified how Blu went after their little dog to get her away from his food.  Blu was sweet to her and never went after her.  The Mom then put Blu outside where the torture began with him being beat almost to death in the street.  The authorities thought he was dead when they arrived but he wasn’t.  He was taken  to a vet for x-rays and treatment.  He has extensive head woulds, a cracked skull above his eye and a broken leg.  His head had massive swelling that is now draining out of his ears.  We took him in to make sure he received the best possible medical care for an animal that had been beaten as badly as Blu had.  He is scheduled to have surgery today.  Only time will tell how extensive his head injuries are.

BLU has had surgery on his leg and is doing great.  The swelling in his head has gone down a lot and the drainage has almost stopped.  He will be monitored for several months to see what kind of neurological problems he might have from the blows to his head.  One thing he is not lacking and that is being a gentle sweet boy.  He is definitely a lover and not a fighter.  I can see why the little girl liked him so much.  He is a sweetheart.  Only time will tell about all of his neurological factors but so far he seems to be doing great with the swelling going down.  He is really so happy to have someone be sweet and kind to him.

Blu is coming along nicely since his surgery.  He is now in a facility where he is being closely monitored for any neurological problems and to rehab his leg.  Blu is a sweet boy that is being re-socialized with people and other animals because of the abuse he endured.  He is already putting weight back on and looks like a new dog.

BLU is doing incredible.  His leg is healing beautifully and he loves running around all day long.  We are working on him with his manners and he is slowly learning how to trust people again.   Sweet boy that would love to be in someones lap all day long.  Look at BLU kissing the puppies through the fence below.
