CHESTER, SC....Bobby McGee was picked up as a stray and brought to the shelter in Chester, SC. He is a 3 year old Lab / Pointer Mix. He is as sweet as can be and loves everyone. He came in with a leg injury and was unable to use his rear left leg. He was taken to the vet and it was determined he had been shot and needed major surgery. Since he was injured and in pain, he was going to be PTS if no one stepped up. We intervened and got him to the surgical facility we use in Charleston, SC. He was immediately x-rayed to see what had happened to him. We discovered his entire body was riddled with buckshot and one bullet that we believe fractured his rear leg. It looks like he has old and new buckshot wounds. The latest injury seems to be 2 weeks old that shattered his leg. The bone in the leg has one inch that is no longer there. We did surgery and had to do a bone graft to fill in what was missing. Our sweet boy is not our typical abuse case but a fabulous dog that needed to be saved. When he was examined we also discovered his abdomen and chest area was one big bruise. We don't know if he was kicked or what happened. We named him Bobby McGee because he was obviously a Traveling Man that was sweet on the Ladies since he was an unaltered male. We can't emphasize enough how important it is to spay and neuter your beloved animals. They will live longer and will also be much happier. Their natural urges to roam and find a mate will no longer be their primary goal in Life. Bobby McGee has obviously been shot at a lot for no fault of his own. Did he deserve to die or suffer because he was doing what was natural, absolutely not. We did extensive surgery on this wonderful boy that will also need lots of rehab to restore his natural walk. The good news is that his Crown Jewels were removed and his roaming days are behind him. He is the sweetest dog with the softest coat of fur you could ever imagine. Whatever his combination is works for him because he is a beauty. Please, help us with his surgical and medical care.
