COLUMBIA, SC.....BOCEPHUS is a beautiful AKC registered BLOODHOUND.  The owners paid a lot of money to have this sweet dog.  He was at a Family function this past week-end and got away from the person that was holding him. He ran into the street and got hit by a car.  He was taken to the Emergency Care Facility in Columbia where it was determined he has a right femur fracture, an acetabular fracture and a possible fragment of the medial wall.   The owner is a young man that signed the dog over to his Grandmother who proceeded to sign the dog over to the surgeons that signed the dog over to us.  No one wanted to step up to save this wonderful dog.  They could have amputated his leg and saved him that way but since he is a pure breed Bloodhound, they didn’t want him to be a three-legged bloodhound since they wanted to use him to hunt and they wanted to breed him.  He could still do all of the above but could do none of the above if he was PTS.  Where is the logic.  They opted for euthanasia if we did not step up for him.  It still really upsets me when people spend thousands of dollars for a dog but do not spend the money to save the dogs life when tragedy strikes.  I feel pretty certain they will go out and get another dog just like BOCEPHUS and spend several more thousand dollars on a brand new model while this dog is healing from his surgery.  He matters to us and we are going to repair his body and not amputate his leg in the process.  This wonderful puppy could someday be an incredible service dog that could be part of a search and rescue team.  He has the ability to pay it forward by saving lots of lives.  Let’s give him the gift of life so he can do what he was bred to do.

Bo has had his surgery and is doing great.  He is with his foster family recovering.  He was the biggest baby in the beginning but has finally gotten comfortable and is loving being with another bloodhound.  He is a happy boy.
