Gabby and Henry

Latest Updates

They were tied up and left outside to starve. Animal control and the Sheriff  arrested the man that did this to them and he is in jail.  They were taken to the Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Greenville, SC where they are being treated for starvation.  When they came in, they could barely walk and all they cared about doing was giving the nurses kisses and wagging their tails.  Dying by starvation is a terrible way to die. It is a long, slow torture.  When the Emergency Hospital called and told us the terrible abuse these sweet 9 month old pits had endured and that no one would help them, we stepped up and said that we definitely would.

No animal should ever be treated this way.  The fact they are so loving makes it even sadder because they had to have been sweet dogs even before this. It is going to be a very slow process getting them on the other side of this because they have been starved for so long.  If we didn’t think we could get them through this without them suffering, we would have humanely put them to sleep.  According to the doctors and nurses we have looking after them, they deserve a chance and with lots of medical care and TLC they will be beautiful, sweet companions for some lucky person.  They are also being de-wormed and  vaccinated. The test showed they are both light HW positive.  They will be spayed and neutered when we get them well and will also treated for HW.

Gabby and Henry are slowly but surely putting their weight back on.  As soon as they are not anemic anymore, they will be neutered and spayed.  Hopefully by the end of this week that can happen.

Gabby and Henry are looking great.  They have put their weight back on and are well enough to start their heartworm treatment.  Because of the circumstances where they were tied up together and had to fight for any food they had, they need to be placed in a home where they can be the only pet.  They cannot be with another dog or with any cats.  They are incredible loving dogs and need an owner that is used to pits.  Don’t think they aren’t sweet because they love to be around people and give lots of kisses.

We have hired a professional dog trainer that is experienced with  aggressive dogs to train Gabby & Henry.  Being at the vet for so long just in a run and not getting enough exercise because of their HW treatment caused them to be real sensitive to any dog getting near their cage.  We now know they are just small bullies.  The training is going wonderful.  They are learning manners and how to be tolerant of other dogs.  This is only their third day of training and we are seeing a total transformation.  You can tell by the video just how sweet and loving they are.  When we feel they are ready to be placed, we will let you know.  They really are exquisite animals.

This is Gabby and Henry with their trainer playing.  They both walk beautifully on a leash and are learning to be good dog citizens.  They are officially ready to be placed into a loving home that is experienced with pits and their personality.
