JELLY BEAN

BALTIMORE, MD.......We were contacted by a person in Baltimore about an adorable six-month-old puppy that was picked up after months of abuse.     Adorable Jelly Bean needed help, and she needed it now.   We put someone on the road immediately to pick her up and bring her back to the Critical Care Hospital in Charleston, SC.

When this adorable little Lab Mix arrived in the early morning hours, the Specialists were shocked at how many injuries she had.    Despite all of that, all Jelly Bean wanted to do was give lots of kisses and play with her tiny mangled body.   Her hindleg fractures are her most pressing and severe of injuries.  Both femurs are broken at the top and bottom.  At the hip joints, both femoral heads are broken off.  Due to chronicity, these will be treated with FHOs.  Also on the right side, the main bony protuberance that all the big hip muscles (gluteal) attach to (greater trochanter) is also broken off.  This is significant because we rely on these muscles and this attachment point to give the FHO the best chance at success.  Because of this, we’ll likely freshen up that fracture and stabilize it with an implant so it can heal.  Her worst fractures are the ones at the other end of the femurs by her knees.  On the left side, the displacement isn’t as bad, but her body has succeeded in nearly completing healing of the fracture, resulting not in significant misalignment of the bone and will complicate the repair.   Based on the Surgeons notes and the degree of healing that has occurred over the course of months, this adorable puppy has been constantly abused by someone.   Jelly Bean also has a hematoma on the top of her head that is filled with fluid, and her right elbow is filled with fluid from trauma.  She also has two chronic rib fractures, but no other signs of chest/lung/diaphragm trauma.     The pain this sweet, adorable puppy has endured is unimaginable.  All she wants to do is give kisses.   How anyone could take out their anger on one so innocent is something I will never understand.

We have two wonderful Orthopedic Surgeons that are working on her case since she has so many areas that need to be repaired.   We have already started the process and are looking at months of rehab and repair to give Jelly Bean the best possible chance of walking normally again.   Please, Help Us, Help Her by Donating.

We have been told this is an on-going Animal Abuse case.  We are giving the authorities all the medical information we have so they can convict the person that did this.
