COLUMBIA, SC.....Lola and Gumbo are two incredible little Chihuahuas that were both abandoned and on their own. They were both picked up as strays in totally different places at different times. They were both going to be euthanized because no one wanted to step up for them and no one was looking for them. Lola, the smallest Chihuahua, is two years old and still has her eyes. When we rescued her, her corneas were scratched, she was extremely thin, was loaded with parasites and had terrible Coccidia. That was 4 weeks ago. She has since seen a specialist and been getting round the clock care, usually in the arms of a doctor or nurse carrying her everywhere because she is so cute and adorable. Her beautiful eyes have healed and she is doing wonderful. Several weeks after we took in Lola, along comes Gumbo. Scheduled to be put down because no one wanted him, we decided to do what we could to save him also. Gumbo is around eight years old and had detached retinas. We sent him to an Eye Specialist to see if we could save his eyes and found there was nothing we could do to save them. Gumbo had developed Glaucoma in both eyes and they had to be removed because of the pain and suffering he was experiencing. His eyes were removed last week and he is now wonderful. During all this time, these two special little pups have bonded and are now ready to be adopted together. Lola loves Gumbo and wants to play with him all the time. Gumbo is glad for all the attention and is happy to have a familiar scent he recognizes that is always loving toward him since he lost his eyes. We have decided they must be adopted together. Lola is becoming Gumbo’s eyes and the closer they get the happier they each are together. We have done all of the medical on both of them and they are now ready for their new home together. LOLA & GUMBO are so happy together. Gumbo’s eyes are healing beautifully. We finally have our first smile out of our wonderful boy. He loves Lola and Lola adores him. They are both doing great and are the sweetest pair. I am shocked no one has asked to adopt them. They are sweet, cute and adorable. They are both out of the hospital now and with a great Foster Mom.
