ORANGEBURG, SC.......It is hard to imagine hitting an animal on a highway and not stopping to help.   There seems to be an epidemic of  people that choose to look the other way when something bad happens.   Accidents happen all the time.   It is the conscience disregard for the animal that is so disturbing.    How anyone could then go about their day knowing they left the animal to suffer is beyond me.

We were contacted about a dog that was in the Orangeburg Shelter after being run over.   Someone called Animal Control to let them know there was a dog in the middle of the road that had been hit not once but TWICE.   The second time he was thrown six feet in the air.   How this sweet dog is still alive is a testament to his WILL to LIVE.

Meet the most amazingly sweet dog we have named Nanuq.   We had our transporter meet a Volunteer that pulled this sweet dog for us.   Nanuq is about 18 months old, with no identification.    He was in complete shock when we had him taken to  the ER Hospital in Charleston, SC.   After getting him stable, they were able to access how badly he was hurt.   He has a comminuted proximal left femoral metaphyseal fracture and an inter-trochanteric fracture. In addition to that, his has a left sacral wing fracture with mild cranial displacement.   When Nanuq was hit, one of his eye teeth tore part of his lip.  This poor pup is in horrible shape but will raise his head and give you the sweetest smile you have ever seen.  It breaks your heart that someone allowed this sweet dog to roam free and get hurt this way.

Nanuq was in surgery for almost seven hours doing the repairs.   He has plates with more screws that I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot.   He is still in ICU recovering.   He is one big beautiful baby that will cry if you leave him for one second.  He needs to have a paw on you at all times to feel safe.   It is only after he is finally sedated enough to sleep that you can walk away from him.   The minute he wakes up; it starts again.  He is running the show at CVRC (Charleston Veterinary Referral Center).   He is being transferred to Columbia for physical therapy so he can get back his ability to walk again.   Right now, he does not like any part of walking because of all that has happened.  He is a big 80 lb dog that we have to get up and moving.   His recovery depends on it.

Nanuq is the most beautiful 18 month old dog.  He is a combination of Shepherd with Husky based on the one beautiful blue eye he has.   His x-rays show lots of buckshot all over his body.   Based on the fact he WAS an intact male, he roamed around doing what intact males do.....searching for Females.   Notice, I said WAS.  His enormous Crown Jewels have been removed.   His days of Glory are all behind him now.  Maybe that is why he is such a big baby.   He has a lot more to worry about than that.  We have to get him mobile and upright.   The net couple of weeks is critical in his recovery.

Please, help us with Nanuq's extensive medical bills.  We are just at the beginning of his care, and the bills are already through the roof because of being in ICU.    He is alive today because of the care he received when he first arrived with us.

I wish there wasn't a need for organizations like Noah's Arks Rescue.  The sad reality is that there are so many medical abuse cases that we can only take a small percentage of the ones we see daily.   You only hear about 60% of the animals we take in.  The rest I take care of to make sure they get the medical care they need.    When I send a plea around, it is because we desperately need the funds to keep doing what we do best.   We save animals from a Life of Suffering and Torment.   We do everything possible to give them the best possible outcome given the condition they are in when they arrive.   Any amount is always appreciated.  If you can't donate, then please say a prayer and forward it on to your friends.  We are all in this together.  You are our Village.   Thanks for all the sacrifices you make so our animals can have a better Life.    We are here because of YOU.
