BALTIMORE, MD.....We got the call late Thursday Night saying a 9 month old Boxer/Pitbull Mix was picked up as a stray.  His neck was ripped to shreds and he was covered with dog bites old and new all over his face, neck and legs.  This poor boy was in terrible shape.  It was obvious he had been used as a Bait Dog a some dog fighting ring.  After they were done with him, he was abandoned.  He was taken to a 24 hour ER Care facility and basic care was done.  They did not think he was going to make it through the night.  We immediately flew a transporter to Baltimore the next day and had him transferred to Essex Middle River Veterinary Center which is who initially took such good care of Freckles.  He was stabilized and his wounds were cleaned and debrided.  Our driver picked up Pluto and drove him to Charleston, SC to the critical care facility we use where Freckles still was.  Pluto is the cutest most friendly little pup you will ever meet.  With all the pain he has been in, he has not done one whimper or cry since we had him.  His neck is almost totally ripped off and all he cares about is giving everyone kisses and wagging his tail.    We are having to do the same thing we did with Freckles when he first arrived.  His wounds are cleaned and packed several times a day.  We will then put in sutures so we can stretch the skin so it can eventually be closed.  Our sweet little Angel will be in the hospital for about three weeks until his wounds have closed.   I don’t know why the people that do this all over the country can’t be caught and have done to them exactly what is done to these sweet defenseless animals.  It tears my heart out every time one comes in.  They are used as bait because they are gentle and sweet.  They are not mean and will not hurt the main dog that is practicing how to kill on them.  I am just glad Pluto will now have a chance at a better life and will never know pain and suffering again.  I picked the least graphic picture to show the wounds.  The pictures below are extremely graphic.

Our adorable Pluto is one of the sweetest dogs.  He has no concept of having a large gaping wound on his neck.  All he cares about is kissing anyone that is within a mile of him.  Every Vet Tech and doctor that has to work with him while changing and packing his bandages gets covered with kisses and showered with whatever is coming out of his wounds.  He shakes his head the minute the bandages are removed and the entire time we are flushing them.  More liquid ends up on us than ever gets on his wound.  The minute we get near his kennel, he starts his happy dance and does not stop until he is so tired that he falls asleep.  He spends very little time in his kennel because he is always in someone’s arms being loved on.  Every time I am in the hospital, I have to look for him because he is always out and wrapped up in someone’s lap or arms.  I love it because this is what every animal deserves forever.  Pluto’s wound has beautiful granulation and will be closed soon.  The reason why we are having such good luck with Pluto is because he was found shortly after he was attacked.   His wounds did not have time to become infected the way Freckles had.  Once his wound had been debrided, his tissue immediately began to granulate and start to grow.  I wish we would have the same outcome each time with all of the animals but each one is different and each one is found at different stages of either healing or dying.

We were contacted by someone from Baltimore saying they were upset because they were getting lots of heat from everyone saying they were not doing enough to stop the dog fighting that keeps happening there.  The person informed me there was no indication Pluto had been used as bait.  I was shocked and outraged and immediately sent them a video of this sweet boy.     What is wrong with people that choose to see what they want to see instead of what is right in front of them.  Pluto’s face is covered in scars from old bites.  His neck had puncture wounds that got so infected they ruptured.  Why do people not want to see this.  Our Society chooses to look the other way daily when it comes to animals.  It is up to us to not let that happen.  We get the animals and do everything we can to save their life and turn it around for the better. Every waking moment is spent saving animals.  We cannot also fight the fight with the authorities to get them to take action.  We supply medical records and any pictures and videos they need to go after anyone.  Do whatever you can to not let all these innocent animals be forgotten.  Someone has to be made accountable for this and this has to stop.  There is no sign of this stopping because the abuse cases are coming more now than ever.   Please, do whatever you can to bring so much awareness to all of these innocent animals that the authorities have to take action.

Look who finally has his wound closed up once and for all.   Because the wound was so large, some of the skin had to be folded over to give us the best possible outcome.  Pluto is still in the hospital because of an infection which is slowly going away.  We have some swelling around the site and some draining which is to be expected.  We are applying warm compresses daily to get as much swelling and edema down as quickly as possible.  Little Pluto is one of the sweetest little dog you will ever meet.  Nothing bothers him.  He has never given us anything but kisses the entire time we have been working on his wounds.  The only issues we have with him is that it takes us a long time to change his bandages because he spends every second kissing everyone constantly.  He never stops. We love being kissed by such a sweet adorable little Angel.  His demeanor is the reason why he was used as bait.  Fighters take very submissive dogs that will not fight back so their dogs will learn how to fight but will not get hurt.  The dogs are always so sweet and trusting that they never know what is about to happen until it has happened.  Pluto is one of the lucky ones.  He is a young dog  that was discarded after he got the last major injury.  Based on all of the old bite marks on his face, this had been happening to him since he was young.  Our sweet boy is going to make the most incredible family dog when he has finally healed.  He loves everyone and does not have any problems with other dogs. We are so surprised by this but he doesn’t.  He is just a happy go lucky boy that wants to play, give kisses and then curl up in your lap.  We love and adore his incredible innocence and will make sure no one will ever hurt our little Angel again.

Our sweet boy is almost over his infection and will soon be neutered.  It is amazing to see the before and after pictures of how far he has come since we first got him.  We have some incredible surgeons that jump through hoops for us so we have the best possible outcome for all of our Abused Animals.  Pluto’s wound is not showing any new signs the infection is doing anything but going away.  He had a large pocket that had filled up with fluid after his wound closing but that has finally subsided and looks pretty normal now.  It is amazing to us how any animal that is covered with bite marks all over his face and neck could ever learn to trust people or animals again.  The fact is this adorable little Pitbull has nothing but Love in his heart for everyone and every animal he meets.  His tail never stops wagging.  When he leans into you and wraps his head and neck around your neck it is the sweetest most loving gesture.  Pluto is nothing but a gentle trusting boy that got involved with the wrong people.  We will never know how he got to be in such horrible shape but we do know that at some point in his life, someone loved and cared for him.  Thanks for being a big part of his Journey to heal and have a life filled with nothing but Love and Compassion for the incredible Survivor that he is.
