AUGUSTA, GA......Sweet Sammi (short for Samantha) is an 8-year-old Golden Retriever that was turned into a Vet in Augusta, GA.  The Family that brought her in said she was a stray even though the entire Family seemed to know everything about this sweet pup.   She came in unspayed with a mass that was removed at the time of the spay.   We were asked to take on her case when they discovered a tumor on the bridge of her nose.  

Sweet does not even begin to describe this amazing dog.  Golden's are always sweet and loving, but Sammi seems to have taken sweet and adorable to a whole new level.   When we first discovered the tumor, it was biopsied and came back as a Mast Cell Tumor.   Because of the location of the tumor and the size, we opted to do Radiation first at Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Matthews, NC with Dr. Philip Treuil.  Our hopes were that we could shrink the tumor and then possibly do Chemotherapy to knock it out.  The tumor did shrink, but unfortunately, Sammi has not been able to tolerate the chemotherapy.    Today, we have opted to remove as much of the tumor as possible to give her the best possible chance of surviving.   The tumor has taken over part of the bony bridge of her nose.   We will not be able to remove all of the tumor which is why we did Radiation first.  

Sammi is also heartworm positive and will have to be treated once she has recovered from the surgery.   Sammi has a wonderful Family that loves her to pieces. The Vet Tech that was fostering her, decided to Adopt her.  We want to give her the best Life possible by doing everything we can to stop her cancer from growing.   The best news of all is that her cancer has not metastasized to any other part of her body.  She is free-and-clear everywhere else.   Please, say a prayer for sweet Sammi today and Donate whatever you can to off-set all of the expenses we already have in her Medical Care so we can continue providing her treatment.  Thanks for caring and making her Journey to find Love and Healing, possible.
