SPARROW

Our sweet Sparrow had major surgery yesterday to close the largest wound on his head and ear canal area.  We also created flaps and closed the areas on his legs that were not granulating in.   The best news is that we were able to create a small opening for him to still have some hearing out of that ear.  Not a lot but some is better than none.   His ear area has been a major problem since we got him because the dog bite and large gash tore a significant part of his ear canal and ear flap.   Some of his ear flap had already been removed since the tissue had died and was a source of infection.  The other problem we were having is that the infection inside his ear was different from the infection outside the ear.   The surgeons have been working tirelessly on removing dead tissue for the last two weeks.   The worst and most complicated area has been the ear.    I haven't posted a picture of the ear area ever because it is so graphic.  The picture is grayed out unless you click on the graphic symbol and only then can you see the picture on his web page.  We did this to protect people that do not want to see anything this graphic.

Sparrow is a wonderful dog that loves all of the attention and gives kisses all the time.    He is still in ICU because his injuries are still so significant.    I would like to say he is well enough to get out of ICU but that is not the case right now.  Hopefully, next week he will be able to be in a larger area of the hospital with more freedom.   He is not lacking for people loving on him.  He is probably tired of all the attention but we never tire of giving it.

Any animal in ICU is racking up major medical bills.   Because of Sparrow's on-going surgeries, he is exceeding the normal ICU cost.   Please, consider donating toward his extensive bills.   He has several more weeks in the Critical Care Facility before he can be transferred to a regular hospital.    Thanks for caring about Sparrow and being part of his Journey to Survive this horrible ordeal.     He is winning his battle because of you.
