BUTTERSCOTCH

Sweet Butterscotch is completely confused by all the people around that are focused on getting her well.   She doesn't know whether to hate us or love us.   The good news is that she has allowed a leash to be put one so she can be taken outside.   Her skin is too fragile to put a harness on which is what we would normally put on any dog that is as fearful as she is.    When she does go outside, she needs to have a towel draped over her or she will not go outside.   She feels too vulnerable and exposed if she is not draped in the towel.   A Thundershirt would have been perfect for her if her skin weren't in such terrible shape.

Butterscotch had her first bath on Saturday and let me tell you, it was worse than bathing a cat and we all know how much cats hate water.   She appeared to have grown legs because it took everyone in the Clinic to get her bathed.    Her skin is coming off in layers and not in a good way.   It is elephant thick skin that has accumulated in heavy layers because of the sarcoptic mange she has.  Mixed into the layers are large pockets of infection that have eroded into her body and are now bleeding.    Her skin problems have been going on for months to get this bad.   We do not know at this time if she will get all of her hair back.  I am sure there will be areas that have damaged the skin so badly that it will not come back.   We love this sweet pup and could care less if she ever gets fur back.  All we care about is getting her well and comfortable.  Relieving her pain is our top priority so she can get some much-needed rest.   Her mental state is one of being on red alert all the time.

This week we are focusing on gaining her trust so she can be treated.  By the end of the week, her test results should be back, and we will have a better idea of her over-all health.  We have wonderful Vets and Vet Techs that are treating her with kid gloves.  Hopefully by the end of the week, she will begin to relax and take in all the love everyone has for her.  I believe in my Heart she knew someone would come and save her.   She was right because we are here and with your Support, we can turn her Life of pain and suffering into one of health and unconditional Love.
