Macy

LAURENBURG, NC.....MACY is a 3 year old PITBULL that was used as bait for fighting.  After her last fight, she was then tied up and left behind an abandoned building.  Her cuts and wounds were the perfect place for ticks to attack her and attack her they did.  She was covered with them when we got her.   As you can see from the pictures, she has completely given up.   Her life has been a living hell and she looks like she just can’t take it anymore.  It was her original picture that made me step up for her.  Macy is covered with open wounds.  She is one big infection.  Because of all the parasites she had, she is very anemic.  We have done a thorough Tick Panel on her and are waiting for the results to come back to see what else she will need to be treated for.  Because of all her injuries and the way she feels she is not happy to see other dogs right now.  We are hoping that will change but if it doesn’t then she will be placed in a training home to work on her issues when she is medically able.  She also does not appear to like men but LOVES all women and will shower them with kisses.  It will be a long time before this sweet girl trusts again but we will give her all the time she needs and shower her with all the love and affection she wants.  We think she will eventually come around.  Right now, she needs all the medical care we can give her so her body will heal.  She is still young and should start to feel better, we hope, in a couple of weeks.  We will never know the full extent of the pain and suffering she has had to endure at the hands of humans.  If her face could tell you her story, it would surely be a nightmare.

We just got MACY’S Tick Panel back and she has every tick born disease you can possibly get.  The one we were most concerned about is that she came back positive for BABESIA.  This is one we take very seriously and can kill dogs that are not treated properly and can then still cause them to bleed to death.  We have also come to the conclusion based on MACY’S genitals that she was sexually abused.  She looks like all of the other female dogs that have been sexually abused and is so upset when she sees a man that we think we have finally figured out why.  Please, help us with her care.  She will be with us for quite a long time recovering and getting healthy.

MACY is slowly coming around.  She is responding well to all of her treatments, the problem is that she has so many conditions going on that we have to be selective about what we treat first or we will compromise her immune system more which is already terribly compromised.  We are now having to treat her for Sarcoptic Mange on top of everything else.  She is getting lots and lots of love and affection and loves it when any of the girls in the office come in the bak to nuzzle and play with her.  Her bloodwork is improving and she is not as anemic as she was before.  If we can keep from giving her a transfusion that is the best case scenario since giving blood has it's on set of dangers.  She is still very upset if a man tries to come near her but that is to be expected given her history.  MACY loves women and is always so affectionate when she has one wrapped around her.  She will be in the hospital for several more weeks before she will be transferred to a rehab home.  Thanks for caring.

Look how wonderful MACY looks. She is finally well enough to be spayed this week. Today was her last treatment for the Sarcoptic Mange. As you can see from her picture her skin has cleared up a lot. Her weight is normal and all of her bloodwork is great. She is a happy girl that loves everyone but men. She is very cautious of them for good reasons. Today is the first day she walked up to one of her male vets and allowed him to pet her. It was on her terms only. That is a great start for this wonderful girl. She still has lots of issues with other dogs. After she is cleared to leave the hospital in about 10 days, she will then be working with a trainer to see if we can get her back into having fun with other dogs her size. We are keeping an open mind with this and only she can tell us when or if she will be ready. In the meantime, she is soaking up all the love we can give her. She absolutely adores women and it shows whenever one comes near her.

Our dear girl is ready for her new home.  She loves everyone but needs to be in a home where she is the only dog.  She will greet you every morning with that wonderful smile.  This is her time to have a loving, kind family with no more abuse.

MACY is finally getting to where she likes some dogs.  After months of training, we have a few dogs that are very submissive that do not bother her at all.  That is a huge step for our sweet girl.  Baby Steps for Macy is how we have had to train her.  Too much too soon sets her back.  This girl is one big bundle of love.  She will soon be ready to be placed in a special home all her own.
