MUGGS

Latest Updates

BALTIMORE, MD......Muggs is a beautiful one year old red-nosed Pitbull that was caught up in a domestic dispute and burned.  Authorities were called when bricks were being thrown into the home of the person that had Muggs.  No arrest were done at the time.  The next morning, the man came back with his friends.  They broke in, doused the home with kerosene and lit a match.  The woman was able to get out unharmed but Muggs was not so lucky.  All of his legs and underside have second and third degree burns.  His back has burns but nothing like what is on his underside.  Muggs was in shock and was rushed to the ER.  We were immediately contacted since she was going to need long term critical care to survive.  We sent someone immediately from South Carolina to pick this adorable little pitbull up when she was stable enough to travel.  The first 48 hours are critical when it comes to life-threatening burns that cover so much of the body.  Within 36 hours of this happening, we had Muggs in our ICU with a team of doctors doing everything possible to save this wonderful little girl.  We waited almost 10 days before posting to make sure Muggs would survive and to see how bad the burns were going to get.  Burns to this degree are terribly painful.  Muggs has been monitored 24 hours a day to keep her as comfortable as possible without knocking her out all the way.  We think the worst is over as far as pain goes for her but now the healing process begins.  Each day a new layer of skin either dies and has to be removed or we have to debride the dead skin to get down to healthy skin.  The pads of her feet are half on and half off.  One foot is going to have to have a pad graft done from another foot so she can walk.  Each day brings on new challenges to keep her stable.  When you have that much exposed, raw skin, the body weeps fluids all day long trying to heal.  Those fluids create an imbalance throughout the body that has to be compensated for.  So far we have been able to stay on top of it but each day brings a new set of critical problems.  This adorable little dog has been sweet throughout the process.  She has good days and bad days.  She is surrounded by people that love and adore her.  There is never a time that she is left alone without someone being close by.  We will not know how many skin grafts will have to be done for several more weeks.  Each day a part starts to heal or die.  As it dies, she immediately goes into surgery to remove the necrotic tissue so it does not get infected.  Muggs has some form of surgery and lots of bandage changes all throughout the day.  it is going to be this way for the next month.  Please, donate toward Muggs medical bills.  We are still at the beginning stages of treating her and each day is another huge bill.  You cannot imagine what it costs to save a dog  that has such significant burns.  If I had to spend all of my energy focusing on that, no dog would ever be saved.  Please, be the Angel this incredible dog needs and that WE need to continue helping Abused Animals.

The people that did this have been arrested and are in jail.
