BENGAL

We wanted to give everyone an update on sweet Bengal this morning.   She is still in critical care and will be for a while.   Bengal's body is in Shock.   We are doing everything possible to keep her comfortable and stable while the antibiotics kill the bacteria that has invaded her body.   Her body temperature is very low along with her heartbeat.  She is surrounded with supplemental heat to keep her body temperature up.   She has 24-hour care while in ICU, so every aspect of her care is closely monitored.    She is borderline needing another transfusion.  The two transfusions she received brought her values up, and she has been able to maintain a low normal value on her own.   We do not want to give her another transfusion unless her values begin to go down. The best thing for her right now is to rest and allow her body to heal.

Bengal is not strong enough to survive surgery at this time.   The infected foot has been removed, and the rest of the leg has been debrided.   The Surgeons are doing everything possible to rid her body of as much dead infected tissue as possible.   Bengal's Albumen level is very low because her infected leg is oozing, and she is losing a lot of fluid from it.  She has been getting Hetastarch and is also getting supplemental albumen to regulate her values.

Bengal is finally comfortable and can get some much-needed rest.  For Bengal to have survived the last couple of weeks, her adrenaline had to have been running non-stop at full blast.    That scenario is necessary to survive a horrible trauma but will eventually kill an animal if it is continued.   What Bengal needs now is TIME to heal.   She is aware of her surroundings and is accepting of all the love and care she is receiving.   When she first came in, she was very anxious and could not relax.   She now knows we are not here to hurt her and is  FINALLY able to let go and let the Specialists do their magic.  She has done the hard part by hanging on until help arrived.  The worst is over for her.   Now, it is up to us to not let her down and to do everything possible to save her Life.   Your generosity and kindness makes that possible.

Say a Prayer for this sweet Soul that she can hold on a little longer until her body begins to fight the infection that is threatening to take her Life.  If you are new to the Noah's Arks Rescue Community, you need to know that we NEVER, EVER Give Up on an Animal we Rescue.  We go above and beyond to give them the best chance possible to Survive and Thrive.  We always have and we always will. Thanks for caring and sharing her story of Survival.
