Latest Updates

These FOUR sweet 3 month old shepherd pups have really had a bad start in life.  They were brought into the Marion County Shelter in Mullins, SC covered with fleas, sores and demodex.  Someone had poured motor oil all over them.  They were so hot from the motor oil that we were shocked they were still alive.  You name it they have it.  The person that brought them in said they were strays that wandered on her property and she put the motor oil on them to cure the demodex.  Motor oil can kill puppies and older animals if applied to the skin.  It damages the skin and can cause the liver and kidneys to shut down.  The blood pressure can drop dramatically when it is absorbed into the skin and the puppies can die.  It is a 100 year old remedy that has proven to be fatal to animals.  The puppies will be picked up today and brought to a medical facility where they will be treated for motor oil toxicity, demodex, skin infection and about 10 other ailments they have been plagued with.  They will be spayed and neutered and brought up to date on all of their shots.  Once we get them on the other side of this, they will be up for adoption.

UPDATE July 2, 2010

The puppies broke with parvo two days ago.  We have had them on drips and lots of medicine.  I am saddened to say we lost two of them.  The two that are left seem to be coming out of it but with parvo they can go down quickly.  They have been surrounded by lots of love and affection during their time with us.  There is never a time they are not be held or loved on.  It is now just a waiting game to see if we can get them on the other side of this.  Their immune systems have been so compromised from the mange that the parvo was just too much for the two we lost to fight back.  We are doing everything possible for these pups and will spend whatever it takes to get them well.  They are so sweet and loving and vulnerable, it just breaks our hearts.

The two remaining pups are hanging in there.  They still have parvo and will be shedding that for another four weeks which is how long they will have to be quarantined.  They both have bad respiratory infections which we are also treating.  Once the immune system starts to go, they are susceptible  to everything around them.  We are giving them the best care possible and feel like we can pull the final two through this.

Two of the pups are still doing great.  We feel the worst is over and think they will improve more each day.  They have really had a hard time of it though.  They will still need to be quarantined for another two weeks to get rid of the parvo from their system completely.

The two remaining pups are doing great.  They are just about out of their quarantine time and will be spayed sometime this week.  We are now thinking they are German Shepherd mixes.  They are BIG pups.
