HERSHEY

Sweet Hershey was taken to Florida yesterday to meet his surgeons for the first time.  Dr. Nick Bacon will be doing his surgery this morning.  New scans were done yesterday so Dr. Bacon can see exactly where the tumor is located, blood vessels, etc. so he could see the best way to remove the tumor that would cause the least amount of trauma.  The surgery is very tricky and complicated which is why we have the best Oncology Surgeon doing his procedure.  This is also the surgeon that did Bubbles amazing procedure.

Since Hershey tested positive for heartworms  we also did an Echo and had a Cardiologists do a follow-up to make sure he is strong enough for the procedure.  Hershey passed with flying colors.  This amazing dog does not have a clue he has cancer.   Since we have taken over his care and rescued him, he has thrived.  The only different thing we discovered during the scans is that Hershey will probably lose his ear canal during the procedure to remove the tumor.  It had already damaged that area so hearing loss had already begun to happen.    That news did not change our plans to remove the tumor, it just gave us more information for the outcome.

Hershey will begin chemotherapy, along with a holistic protocol tomorrow if all goes well today.    The surgery is going to be very long today.  We will post an update as soon as he has fully recovered from the surgery and is able to get up.   The surgeons have been informed that if during the procedure something happens that will alter his quality of Life for the worse, to let him go while he is under.   They will contact me immediately if that happens.

Please, keep our dear boy in your prayers for a successful outcome.   He is strong enough for the procedures but Life has a funny way of showing us who is really in charge.  Thanks for caring and giving Hershey his chance at a better Life.
