Latest Updates

Sweet Myra was brought into Greenwood County Humane in January.  The person that brought her in said she lived on a large farm and one day she looked out and there was Myra and she did not want her.  This tiny little bundle of joy was not wanted.  Myra is BLIND and we think the person was either a breeder or Myra was dropped because we cannot find any reason why she cannot see.  It is either genetic or she had an injury but there is no way this little blind puppy could have survived on her own and made it into this persons yard with no roads close by.  We have had Myra since January and she is now 12 weeks old and as sweet as can be.  We have had her checked out and have observed her behavior during all this time.  Her best friend is MALINA, the little black pit puppy that was attacked by a bigger dog and her jaw broken.  They are both about the same age. Malina has been Myra’s eyes since we got her.  They sleep, play, wrestle and do everything together.  Myra does not look blind but she is and can only see a few shadows if that.  She might get some of her vision back but we are not hopeful which is why we have kept her for so long.  Myra and Malina will have to be adopted together and can only go to a special home that will protect and look after her.  She will be totally dependent on the person that adopts her to keep her safe.  When we got her, we thought she was a chow mix but now that she has gotten bigger and her ears are sticking straight up, we do not have a clue what she is.  What we do know is that she is not afraid of doing anything.   She gets around, bumps into things and keeps on going.  We are in love with this pair and want them to have a really special home where they can be together.  If you think you are that special person, please contact us.  She is up to date on all of her medical and will have one more check-up on her eyes to see if there has been any change.

Everyone knows how passionate I am about blind animals.  They are a gift to be cherished and loved and deserve a special place in everyone’s heart.  Below are pictures of Myra and Malina as they are today playing.

Myra is not missing out on anything in life because she is blind.  She has adapted so well and her buddy Malina is her biggest fan.  We are still looking for that special family to adopt both of these wonderful girls.  They will not ever be separated because of the bond they have.  That is the reason why we put them together so young.  They have been sleeping and playing together since they were around four weeks ago.  A lot of people are asking us if they can be separated after they are adopted and the answer is a big NO.  If someone adopts them and decides they only want one, they both have to come back to us.  That is written into their Adoption Contract.  We will have them until we find the perfect family that will love and protect them the way we do with all of our special needs dogs.
