VIDALIA

LAURENS, SC......Sweet Vidalia was picked up barely walking down a road in Laurens, SC after what appeared to be a terrible fight.   We believe she is a very young dog that is around two years old.   Her wounds look like she was used as a bait dog to train fighting dogs.   Her body is covered with old and new fresh gaping wounds.   A Good-Samaritan saw her and call animal control.   Vidalia's body is so frail and thin; I was surprised to hear she could even stand up.  We agreed to take her when we realized she was in an outside kennel with open wounds all over her body.  They were preparing to euthanize her when we agreed to take her into our care.

Vidalia was brought to CVRC, which is our Critical Care facility we use in Charleston, SC.  They have cleaned the wounds and are going to be surgically closing the gaping wounds when they stop draining.   This sweet dogs face is totally chewed up.   She was named Vidalia because she is so sweet, she will make you cry.  Her tail never stops wagging the entire time we are working with her.  All she wants to do is give lots and lots of kisses.   Her wounds are so extensive that she has to be sedated each day to clean and debride.   We have cultures pending to see what kind of infection we are dealing with to make sure she is properly medicated.

Dogs like Vidalia are chosen as bait dogs because they are very passive.  They will engage just enough to defend themselves but not enough to do damage to the other dog.  Based on how she looks now and all of the old wounds, she has been tortured for quite some time.  Animals are usually discarded or killed right after a fight.   We don't know if she was left this way or if she got loose.   Whatever happened, we are so thankful she is with us now.   Wounds will heal, but a broken Spirit takes a very long time.   Vidalia's loving Spirit shows us that she had not been broken and just took what was happening to her as a normal day.   We will know more about her personality as she begins to heal.  Right now, she is in a lot of pain.

Please, Help Us with her extensive medical bills so we can help more dogs like Vidalia get the love and medical care they need to Survive and Thrive.
