CRICKET

Latest Updates

Adorable Cricket is doing wonderfully.   We removed the lower part of the right rear leg that was detached from the bone and ligaments.  The part of the leg that we saved was surgically repaired so it could take a prosthetic leg.    Cricket's leg has to heal all the way before she can be fitted for a prosthetic and only if the Specialists think she is a good candidate.  Our little Angel did great during both of her surgeries and has continued to do well since then.   Cricket's energy level has increased a little bit each day.  We have a splint that is part of her bandage that enables her to use her remaining rear leg.  What we have discovered is that she only uses the leg for balance and the rest of the time she has learned to walk on her two front legs.  Everyone is in awe of this incredible pup.  Nothing seems to deter her from walking.   She is bound and determined to live as normal a Life as possible.

She is still in the hospital healing, but it might as well be in someone's home because she is rarely in her kennel.   Each person takes turns holding and loving on her.  When it comes time to go outside, everyone jumps at the chance of taking her out and watching her run around on her front legs.  She isn't exactly running around, but the fact she is walking is pretty amazing.  We have posted her most recent video walking across the floor and into the lap of someone Special.  Cricket loves being cuddled and loved on.   She would walk all day long if there was a loving person waiting for her when she finished.

It is hard to believe that it was two weeks ago that we rescued her.  Everyone thought we should put her down because she was suffering too much.  What they failed to see was the sheer determination that Cricket had to survive.  She was determined to get out of her horrible situation and find someone to help.    She should have died a long time ago, but she didn't.  My personal experience in rescuing abused animals is that they could give up and die at any time during their horrible ordeal.  The fact they are still alive and fighting speaks volumes for what they are willing to do to survive.  They have already survived the hard part.  Don't put them down before they get a chance to recover physically and emotionally.   They will let you know when they have had enough.

We are still taking donations for our little Cricket so we can pay off her bills from the last surgery.   Any amount is greatly appreciated.  Go straight to her latest video after reading this and pat yourself on the back.  YOUR generosity made her Journey to Survive and Thrive, possible and for that we are forever grateful.
