Beautiful sweet lab we named HAPPY was picked up by animal control in Darlington, SC.  Happy showed up in someones yard with a coated tie out cable embedded into his neck.  He was dragging part of the line with him.    It was embedded so deep you could barely see the line to know what it was. The cable was beginning to restrict air to his trachea.  The police called animal control and they picked him up and took him to the shelter.  He was then taken to the vet where they said it was the worst embedded collar they have ever seen.  They removed the collar and he was then transferred to another doctor that will do surgery on him Monday.  They will debride him and attempt to rejoin the skin with a drain to see if they can get the skin to grow back together.

Animal control is so outraged by the inhumane treatment he has had to endure, they are taking his picture around door to door until they find the person that did this to him.

Through it all, this sweet boy has done nothing but be sweet and kind.   How long Happy has been tied up with this death noose one can only imagine in HORROR.

We have to help this sweet, sweet boy get his life back and find him a wonderful loving home where he is FREE to run and roam.

UPDATE for January 19,2006

Happy had his surgery to close the cut around his neck today.  It took a long time but they were successful with doing it.  They did not have to put a drain in because the tissue was granulating so well.  I will post pictures as soon as the vet sends them to me.

UPDATE for January 23, 2009

Happy is doing great.  He had surgery on Monday to repair his damaged neck and pull the skin edges together.  He is so happy that all he does is bark.  He is a really sweet dog that deserved much better than he got. He will be at the vet for several more weeks to recover.

Happy is doing wonderful.  He is staying with a trainer so he can learn basic manners.  He was tied up his entire life and does not know how to interact without playing rough.  He is learning not to jump up and how to walk on a leash.  He is as sweet as ever and once he is finished with his training will be ready for his new forever home.

Happy has been in training for the last month and is doing wonderful as you can see from the video below.  He has been neutered, is up to date on all his shots and his neck has healed beautifully.  He really is a lovebug that loves to please.
