Latest Updates

Black GSD “Rufus” (name changed to Asher) has a broken right rear femur.  He is a sweetie and a big lap dog.  We believe he was hit by a car because animal control picked him up in the middle of a busy road.  He will need surgery ASAP.  He is not neutered and is around 3 years old.  Please help this boy.  If he does not get rescued immediately, he will be euthanized.

We have a rescue for him.  Now we just need to raise the funds for his surgery.  For all that donated to Wilson, the balance of the money raised that was not used for Sweet Wilson, will go toward Asher’s surgery.

He will be going to the vet on Monday morning to determine exactly what needs to be done to get him back on his feet.  He will also be fully vetted and NEUTERED. Asher is in Greenville, SC.

Monday Morning Update....We have just found out that Asher’s break will require a special surgeon that can put a plate in.  The vet is in the process of finding a specialist and he will be transferred there either tomorrow or Wednesday.  His vet bills will be far more extensive than we originally thought which is why the amount has gone up.

Tuesday Morning Update...We are starting to treat him for hookworms and found out he is light HW+ and we are treating him for both.  Still waiting to hear back from the surgeons.  We are keeping him comfortable while we wait.  He will then be transferred to Upstate Veterinary Specialist.

Wednesday Afternoon Update...Asher was admitted to Upstate Veterinary Specialist and had surgery at 4:00 this afternoon for over two hours.  They discovered that he had a much worse break than they originally thought and he has a fracture in the neck of his femur also.  He will go back tomorrow to complete the surgery by having pins put in the neck of the femur.  All in all, he is doing great for as bad a shape as he was in.  He will have pins up his entire leg.  He was also neutered while he was under.  Lots of recuperation for this sweet boy.  He will be transferred back to the original vet so they can watch him for a couple of days and then will go to his new foster home.

Thursday Morning Update.....The surgeon went in this morning and did a 15 minute procedure to put a screw in the neck of the femur.  Asher will have to be quiet for 12 weeks to let everything heal properly.  Now it’s just a waiting game.  We’ve done the best we can do and hopefully Asher will live a long and healthy life with his leg once it has healed.

December 12, 2008 UPDATE

Asher is doing great!!!!  He is getting a little stir crazy being confined but I think that shows that he is feeling much better.  We are trying not to crate him because we think that might cause things to stiffen up - so we have him confined in a small bathroom and he has a great time opening the bathroom closet and pulling towels down to lay on (he has two dog beds but I guess that isn't soft enough).   He is a great dog and does all with a wagging tail and a smile, his appetite is great and is stool is finally looking good (only dog people talk about how good it looks).   Asher goes back to the Dr. for a check up on Dec. 22.   I have attached two or three pictures of Asher beginning to get his Christmas look set - he has the scarf all he needs is the hat!!!!

January 19, 2009, UPDATE

Asher is doing wonderful.  He is getting a little bit more freedom as his leg and hip are getting more secure.  As the foster family tells it.  He has all but taken their cabinets down where he is.  He is ready to get out and run but has been given the go-ahead for that yet.  He can take long walks now which seems to be tiring him out some.  He is a sweet, sweet boy and will be a wonderful dog for one lucky family.

If you are interested in adopting Asher, please, let us know and we will put you in touch with the people over-seeing that.
