Bengal & Pups

Latest Updates

This wonderful English Bulldog is so pregnant that you cannot tell that she is emaciated until you look at her spine sticking out on top.  She is all babies.  She was picked up as a stray by Animal Control in DeKalb County, GA and brought to the shelter there.  She was set to be euthanized because no one had stepped up for her.  We were picking up another abuse case there and realized how emaciated this sweet dog is and grabbed her.

Everyone that helped with her transport was prepared for her to have her puppies in their car.  She didn’t.  She went straight to the Emergency Vet in Columbia and spent the night there so we could get bloodwork and x-rays to see what we were dealing with since she is so thin.  Bloodwork came back that she is very anemic, high heartworm positive and is carrying 6-9 puppies according to the x-ray. We prefer puppies not being born in shelters or hospitals because of all the diseases they can get so I picked her up the next morning.  We got her home to her new foster family and after massaging her for 12 solid hours to get her relaxed, she gave birth to 9 beautiful puppies.  She had a puppy every hour to hour and a half.  She was exhausted and I was beyond exhausted.  We lost one pup but all the others are doing great.  She is a fabulous dog that just loves her little babies.  The problem we are having now is putting weight on her so she will have enough milk for her new big family.

Once the puppies are big enough, she will be treated for heartworms and any other medical problems she has.  The little pups have all been started on their series of vaccinations.  We have a long way to go with this new family but are glad the worst is over for this Mom.  Because of the condition she was in, she and the babies could have all died.

Bengal and her pups are doing great.  Unfortunately, we lost one of the pups because the Mom ended up laying on her and she suffocated.  We have since put the pups in a basket close to the Mom and take them out for every four hours for feedings.  She is such a great Mom that she pulls them in close to her all the time and that is a problem because of her size.  We are down to seven adorable happy puppies.

This one just opened her eyes up.  They are so adorable and cute.

BENGAL’S PUPS HAVE BEEN ADOPTED.

Bengal and the pups are doing great.  We are having to ween the pups off the Mom now because she is having a difficult time staying healthy and feeding them.  She will begin her heartworm treatment next week.

Bengal is living the life in her new home.  She is being spoiled rotten and gets to run around 5 acres.  She has lots of dogs that she gets to play with and be the Queen of.  I don’t think I have ever seen her any happier.  To see such a stocky dog run like the wind, will put the biggest smile on your face.  Whenever her family goes to run errands or goes to work, sweet Beng will put one of the saddest faces you have ever seen on until they relent and take her with them.  I see Beng all the time and get big sloppy kisses from her.  We all miss Beng but are so glad she is living the life she so deserves.
