GIRARD, GA......BUTTERBALL is a one year old boxer mix that we were contacted about late one night last week. He had been shot and needed emergency medical care because his Family did not want him anymore in the condition he was in. According to the family, he was put out one night to go to the bathroom and did not come back in when he was called. He was missing for seven days. This beautiful boy dragged himself home after being shot with a rifle that appears to have been meant for his heart. He was terribly septic and gangrene had set into his leg when he arrived home. Relief to be home soon turned to horror when he was greeted with people that did not want him anymore. They wanted him to be put to sleep and they wanted the rescue person they called, to do it. These are people that could afford a pure breed boxer for their child but refused to take care of the medical needs of her offspring. Butterball has been the favorite dog of their little girl. He has been a big part of their family but now is disposable. I do not know how anyone could want this lovable puppy to be put down. We couldn’t. Butterball was taken to an Emergency Clinic in Augusta, GA to get a blood transfusion and have his leg removed. As soon as he was stable, we had him transferred to our regular clinic where he is getting proper medical care and the love and affection he so deserves. The infection he had went all through his body and he is still being treated for that. Butterball is so sweet and loving. You just want to wrap your arms around him and never let go. He is one of the most gentle loving dogs and will make a wonderful member of the family. He loves children and other dogs. Butterball will be with us until he has recovered from his surgery and the trauma he went through.
This sweet dog has really been through it. He is still really confused as to what has happened to him. He is getting up and slowly walking around as a tripod. We are giving him lots and lots of love and affection which appears to be exactly what he needs right now more than anything else. We can tell that he is still looking for the sweet girl that was once his family to come and get him. He is a baby that just wants a home. He will be with us for another couple of weeks while he is healing. If you are looking for that special dog that will steal your heart, well, look no further. Butterball will walk right in and steal your heart in about two seconds. We feel terrible for what has happened to this wonderful pup. He lost his Mom, his family and his leg in one terrible night that he still can't seem to forget. Thanks for caring and helping us with this sweetheart of a dog.
