GREENVILLE, SC.......Hadley is a sweet 12 month old Dachshund Mix that was found laying in the front yard of someone in Greenville, SC.  He was unable to walk and appeared to have been hit by a car and the impact probably threw him into the yard.  I can’t even imagine how uncomfortable this sweet little dog was with all of his injuries and the cold temperatures he was subjected to during the night.  The cold might have helped the swelling of his injuries but not anything else.  He is completely broken up.  He was taken to the shelter and we were contacted immediately. Because his injuries were so severe, he had to be rescued ASAP or he would have to be euthanized.  We didn’t want him put down so we immediately had him taken to the surgical facility we work with.  Hadley has a Right dicondylar humeral fracture, Left long oblique ilial body fracture, Right transverse ilial body fracture & a Right acetabular fracture.  In other words, he is all broken up.  He has gone through two surgeries.  His first surgery was right after he arrived last week to correct his pelvis that was fractured on both sides.  We were going to do the balance of the surgery the next day but he was in such bad shape, we waited until this week to do more surgery.  Today is the first day he has begun to put any weight on his legs.  He has a fixature on his right front leg because the joint was completely crushed.  He has a long way to go and will require lots of physical therapy before he will be able to walk normally again.  Hadley is also high heartworm positive.  It is very obvious, this is a loving little dog that no one has supplied any normal medical care to.  Hadley will make a wonderful addition to any family.  He wags his tail and gives kisses every chance he gets.

Sweet Hadley is finally beginning to use his legs and is doing lot of rehab.  He is still at the surgical facility and will be there for a while.  His front leg was crushed so badly that a fixature had to be put in instead of a plate.  The fixature has pins that go through the leg that can be adjusted based on how the leg is healing.  He will have these in for about 8 weeks.  During this time, he will have to have his bandage changed often in a very sterile environment to prevent infection in the bone.  He is so sweet and loving.  You can tell by the look in his eyes that does not have a clue what has happened to him.  He is probably thinking one minute I was going for a stroll and the next minute I couldn’t walk.  He is going to make someone an incredible companion because he has the sweetest disposition.  With all the pain he has ben in, he has been nothing but sweet.

Hadley is still having lots of rehab.  Here is a picture below of him doing his rehab.  It will take a while for this incredible sweet pup to get back to walking.

Hadley is at the surgical facility tonight and hopefully having his pins removed tomorow.  He is still doing lots of rehab so he will be able to use his legs normally again.

We removed Hadley’s pens and his leg did not hold.  We had more surgery done and had his leg plated.  The bones DO NOT want to reform in any manner that will support this little boys weight.  After lots of talks with the surgeons and rehab specialist, we have come to the conclusion the best out come for HADLEY is to remove his leg and let him begin his life as a tripod.  He has had his surgery and is doing great.  We are lucky he can walk at all with all the surgery we had to do to put his pelvis back together.  The good news is that he is done with all surgery and is a happy boy.

HADLEY has been adopted by the Doctor that was doing all of

his rehab and is being spoiled rotten.
