SPARTANBURG, SC.........Animal Control was called to pick up this adorable little Wire-Haired Terrier that was picked up as a stay in Spartanburg.  She was taken to Greenville County Animal Control.  Hannah is almost one year old and was in extreme pain and could not use her back legs without being in agony.  She was put on the PTS list because of her injuries and had to be out of the shelter immediately.  We were her Last Resort when no one stepped up for her.   By the time we got her to our vets, we could not believe how uncomfortable she was.  She was a total mess and it appeared she had not been able to go to the bathroom because she was in so much pain.  Pain is good in regard to letting us know if she has feeling and to rule out being paralyzed but suffering was a whole different story and this girl was suffering.  She was immediately taken to our surgeon and sedated so they could determine exactly what was wrong with her.  They got her comfortable and emptied her bladder.  They soon realized this tiny 15 lb. dog had been stepped on repeatedly.  It appears someone intentionally crushed her pelvis by stomping on her.  She has Bilateral Iliac Fractures and one side was crushed so badly that it was lodged in her sacrum and pushing on her sciatic nerve.  She needed a lot more than pain meds, she needed immediate surgery to get rid of what was pushing on the nerve that was causing all of this discomfort.  Once she was stabilized the surgeons were able to go in and do both sides of her pelvis.  She is getting round the clock care to keep her pain under control while she heals.  You would have to drop a dog off a very tall building to have this kind of injury and then you would have other internal injuries.  That is not the case with Hannah.   We think someone hurt her and then abandoned her in Spartanburg.  We will never know exactly what happened to her but we do know she did not deserve this kind of horrible abuse.  It will be a while before she even thinks about using her rear section.  She will have to have a towel under her to help her move around until she has healed enough to do physical therapy.  She will have a long road ahead but her chances are good for getting back the full use of her legs and walking normally again.

Here is sweet Hannah skipping along and finally putting her leg down.

She is still scared but coming along nicely.
