Greenville, SC....Nigel is a beautiful three year old lab that was hit by a car.  The people that saw it happen called Animal Control and he was picked up.  The shelter was closing and it was determined he had to broken legs on his left side.  We were contacted because there is no way they could keep him in the condition he was in.  It was either take him or he would have to be humanely euthanized so he would not suffer.  We immediately sent someone to get him and take him to our vet to get him stabilized.  After lots of tests and x-rays, it was determined both legs on his left side were totally broken up and he would have to go to a specialist.  It seems like everything lately has to go to a specialist.  Through all of this, sweet Nigel was nothing but sweet and loving.  He was very scared and all he wanted to do was lay his head in your lap and moan.  We got him comfortable and stable and had him transferred to South Carolina Veterinary Specialist where he went through four long hours of surgery to plate and repair both of his legs.  He is still at the surgical facility where he will be until he is transferred to our vet for rehab.

Yesterday was the first day he was able to put weight on both legs with assistance.  He has  a ways to go but should recover with lots of care.  This sweet dog is everything a Lab should be.....loving, gentle, kind, gives great sloppy kisses, has the most soulful eyes and would be a great companion.  He is the family dog as we all know it.  Please, help us with this beautiful creature.  We had two surgeons working on him at once to give him the best chance to live a normal life and now we need your help so we can help other animals.  Without the surgery, he would never have been able to walk again.

Nigel is doing great.  We are amazed how well he is doing for a dog that had two legs broken.  He is using both legs and going outside and doing walks which is what he needs to do to keep his muscles from atrophying.  He will be a wonderful family pet for some lucky family.  He has been neutered but does not like intact males so he cannot be placed with anyone that has not neutered their male dog.  He must be out spay & neuter police.

Nigel is doing great.  He is using all of his legs when he walks and is feeling a lot better.  He will be available for adoption once we feel he has recovered enough for his legs to be stable.  He has a lot more energy than we expected from a dog that has been through what he has.

Nigel is doing wonderful and with a foster family that

just adores him in New England.
