REMINGTON

Sweet Remington is still with us fighting.  He had two more blood transfusions yesterday and is in the process of having two more now.  The problem we are having is that he is still bleeding from what we believe is his colon.  An endoscopy was done late yesterday to see if we could determine exactly where he is bleeding.  The endoscopy was pretty unremarkable.  The scoping last night has everyone convinced that it is coming from his colon.   The mucosa on his colon wall has improved but is still sloughing off.  There is only a small amount of blood coming out of the drains that were put in which tells us that he is improving.   They tried to give Remi some albumin last night but he started to have an allergic reaction, and it was stopped immediately.  Right after Remi gets his transfusion, he feels good and wants to get out of his cage and walk around.  Within hours, he is back feeling horrible, and he sleeps until his blood drops enough for his heart to get irregular, and he starts panting again.  Every part of this process just breaks our hearts.  He is such a great dog that did not deserve this to happen to him.

We have no choice but to keep up with his blood transfusions until his colon wall begins to restore.   The Specialists told me today that he will probably be in ICU for the next week and will require transfusions each day.  I almost fell over when I heard that since each one is so expensive, and he has needed two a day to remain stable.  We have lots of other meds onboard to help his gut heal faster.   All we can do is keep doing what we are doing and pray his condition resolves soon before we get so far in the hole financially that we can't get out of it.  We have a lot of other animals that are still getting medical care that we have to take care of also.  Remi was not an expected case to be taking on right now, and he is taking everything we have to save him.   Either I said yes at the time to try and save him or I said no and he died within a couple of hours.  I said yes, and now we have to keep on doing everything we can to get him through this.    We all need prayers if these transfusions are going to continue for a week and any penny you can spare to keep this ship afloat.

Thanks for helping us with all of our sweet pups.   We greatly appreciate your generosity and support.
