CHANCE (Locked Jaw)

Latest Updates

I finally got an update that I think will put a smile on everyone's face.  Beautiful Chance did fabulous during his procedure.  He had two Surgeons that were working on him during the procedure.   Once his Tracheotomy Tube was inserted, and he was stable, his surgery began.

The Cat Scans gave the Surgeons a road map of where to start without having to open him. The procedures were gone over multiple times before the first cut was made.  Chance's Zygomatic Arch (Cheek Bone) and his TMJ joint were removed on the right side of his head.  His lower jaw bones on both sides have an upward curve that prevents Chance from having the full range of motion.

He can now open his mouth one and a half inches and can get his tongue out to give kisses.  His right side of the face is very swollen but has already begun to go down.   They started out syringe feeding him, high-calorie food but have since started to give him kibble.  His pain level is under control, but he is pretty zonked out in the process which is to be expected.

The next couple of days are going to be critical for this sweet pup.  We need for his swelling to continue going down so he can begin the process of stretching muscles that have not worked for a long time.  Think of it like having your jaw wired shut and then the wires are cut, and your muscles have gotten shorter and do not want to stretch and move.  That is how Chance is feeling right now.

This special pup is in ICU being closely monitored.  Each day the swelling goes down, and he gets more comfortable.  The worst is over for this beautiful pup.  Now the Healing begins, and the kisses come non-stop.
