MARIGOLD

Sweet Marigold is still with us but unfortunately, went into Cardiac Arrest after her tube had been pulled on her way to Recovery.   The Surgical Techs and Vets were there immediately to do CPR.   They got her back and reinserted her intubation tube.   Even though Marigold lost quite a lot of blood during the procedure, the problem was that her airway became constricted from swelling.   The combination caused her heart to stop.

She continued to get transfusions all during the night along with hetastarch to help with coagulation.   She is in a semi-coma state to keep her comfortable while the swelling in her neck goes down.   During this time, Marigold has someone next to her every second to monitor her condition for any signs of distress.  Her heartbeat and blood pressure normalized during the night, and she is breathing comfortably on her own.   Marigold is rotated every couple of hours to keep her body comfortable and to keep any blood or fluid from pooling from lack of movement.  During this time, she is very aware of what is going on.   To calm her down, she is slightly sedated again to keep her comfortable.   She is showing no signs of distress at this time.  She has Vets and Vet Techs that are comforting and loving on her during the entire time.

The next 24 hours are going to be critical.   We have to get the swelling down so the tube can be pulled.   Marigold has to want to be here, or she will not make it.  The fact she fought so hard to come back is a testament to her WILL to live.   If she goes into Cardiac Arrest again, my instructions are to do regular CPR but not surgical CPR.   Surgical CPR would change her quality of Life, and that is not something we are going to do.   The Specialists feel encouraged by where she is now but also know her body condition might not allow her to recover from this no matter how hard she fights to be here.

Marigold knows she is loved by everyone that is taking care of her.   As hard as the next 24 hours are going to be for everyone, we have to each think positive thoughts for her.   If she is supposed to come back to us, she will.  If she decides to let go and cross over the Rainbow Bridge, we will let her go, and no amount of CPR will bring her back.  Please, keep dear Marigold in your thoughts and prayers today.
