BETTY

WASHINGTON, NC......There is sick and tired and then there is BETTY.  This incredibly sweet Pitbull was picked up by a Lady that saw her barely walking down a road.  She was taken to a vet and then taken to the shelter because her condition was so bad.  Betty is 6 going on 60.  All the neglect of her Lifetime has come crashing down to this moment right now.  She has completely given up.  She doesn't even want to raise her head.  It is as if she has given her all and she does not have one ounce left to give.  On top of everything she is dealing with, our sweet girl has a tumor on her back that has ruptured.  Betty has a lot of medical issues.  She is emaciated to the point where her body has started to shut down.  She is high heartworm positive and very anemic.   Her bloodwork is all over the place because she has gone so long without food.  We are having to do everything we can to get her to eat.  Fowler has a better chance than Betty because he hasn't given up.  Betty is in ICU being closely monitored for any signs of distress.  We need for her to fight and there is not one ounce of fight left in this wonderful dog.  She is getting the best medical care around.  What she needs right now is for us to get her strong enough, long enough for her to want to be here.  There is a point when an animal can't take any more abuse and gives up.  Betty has given up.  It is like she has felt this way for so long that she can't remember a time when life was good.  We are treating all of her medical issues and changing her protocol as her body adjusts to food.  Her tumor will have to wait until  she is much stronger.  She needs lots of surgery but that will have to wait until she has regained enough strength to survive.  Betty is being showered with love and affection and lots of prayers.  We take in a lot of abused animals but have not had one give up like this in a long, long time.  She reminds me of Abel when we rescued  him.  Everyone said to let him go.  We didn't and he eventually came around and fought.  He is a big handsome boy that is adored by his wonderful Family.  We pray Betty will do the same.  We will be there to love, hold and care for her no matter what she decides.  We will not abandon her or give up.
