BETTY

Betty has really had us all worried.  I have never had an animal as depressed as this sweet girl is. She has been eating but has not been drinking.  We decided to remove her IV fluids to see if that would prompt her to drink.  We have tried everything to get our little Angel to drink but she is just not ready to so we put the IV back in.  We make her get up to go outside several times a day while in the hospital.  Her head hangs so low that I am surprised she even knows where she is going.  She does her business and then goes back to her bed.  Everyone in the hospital adores this beautiful dog.  She is so sad that we all just want to cry over what has happened to her.  I think she is a little bit better but the Doctor's think she is exactly the same.  We are not going to give up on our little Angel.  It is just going to take more love, more encouragement and more hugs before she realizes her old Life is over and this is how her new Life is going to be FOREVER.  All of the Doctor's and Vet. Tech all have the same goal in mind, to shower Betty with so much love and warmth that she will get sick of all the affection.  Her medical condition is too fragile right now to leave the hospital.  We are trying different liquids until we find one that will excite her.  We believe that she has also had several litters of puppies.  We are getting some stuffed toys to keep in her area so she feels like she has some pups with her.  A little puppy was in the hospital getting medical care and she perked up when she saw the little one.  That was the first time she has ever been excited about anything.  I believe today is going to be a better day for her.  I think she has been neglected, hurt and disappointed so many times that she doesn't want to put herself out there again.  Eventually, she will come around when her good life becomes more important than her past.    For now, her medical is taking a back seat to her emotional care.  Her mental wellbeing is our top priority right now.  Please, keep Betty in your thoughts and prayers and send her lots of love and compassion.
