REMMY

I keep hoping I am going to have great news about sweet Remmy.   This amazing little dog is always in our minds and thoughts on what we can do next to get him well.  He came to us with non-stop diarrhea, and he has improved some but still has it.  We have brief periods when we all celebrate a firmer stool and then two days later the diarrhea is back.  We get his rear end almost healed and then the diarrhea starts, and it is raw again.   We have seen Specialists after Specialists to make sure no stone is left unturned.  During the entire ordeal, our focus is always on loving Remmy and showing him as much love and care as possible.  When he goes outside and has a great day playing, we all get hopeful that we have rounded a corner and this time the improvement will last.  Unfortunately, it doesn't last.  Our last ray of hope was when I thought we could have a Colostomy done at NC State.   We did lots of research, and they were recommended to us.  We just want the diarrhea to stop long enough so we can heal his little rear end and tail.   NC State said they  would consider doing the Coloscopy but not until they had determined what was causing the diarrhea and resolved the issue.

They were very hopeful in the beginning.  They read through his mountain of paperwork and were shocked at the lengths we had gone to get him well.  After lots of new meds and a fecal transplant, our sweet boy was worse than ever.  I realized when they recommended euthanasia, that this was not the place for our sweet boy.   Remmy is a wonderful tiny little dog that has suffered all his Life because a vet removed part of his colon instead of resolving a problem.  More surgery was done to correct the damage he had done, and Remmy went from bad to critical.   That is when we stepped up.  It seems like everywhere we go Specialists get frustrated because what they are trying doesn't work, and they immediately say euthanize.   We could have done that a long time ago.

When we picked up Remmy at NC State, our hearts were broken when we saw him.  It has taken us a week to get the meds out of his system, so he feels more like his normal self.  Remmy has suffered almost all his Life.  With the help of our Special Vets, Vets Techs and Volunteers we are making sure every day is a good day for Remmy.   He is never left alone.  He gets to play as much as he wants to and has someone loving on him all the time.  No one cares if he messes up.  That is a small price to pay to have this little Angel in your arms.  For the next two weeks, everyone has jumped in to help him.  The Vets are overseeing his meds, and everyone else is taking turns taking him home each night.  We never want him to be alone or scared.  If he starts to decline, someone will be with him, and we can get him to the Vet ASAP.  We do not want to give up on him too soon.   If his quality of Life is that he is suffering, and we cannot get him comfortable and happy, then I will know it is time to say Good-Bye.   I am still praying we can resolve this and get him well.   He deserves to be free of this horrible condition.  Please, keep this amazing little dog in your prayers.  He stole our hearts the first moment we saw him, and we have all remained constant with our determination to not let him down and to NEVER give up.   Thanks for caring and helping us with our little Angel.
