Smiley

MARYLAND.....This is the face of DOG FIGHTING in America and around the world.  Innocent dogs that only want to please the person that is supposed to guard and protect them are being trained to attack and be attacked because that is the only way they get praise.  It is something that does not come naturally to them and is learned behavior, KILL or Be KILLED.  Sweet SMILEY is named this because of the permanent smile she carries with her ever day.  A reminder to everyone of the life she has led and death sentence that is ALWAYS hanging over her head.  She is either going to be killed in a basement fight where she was kept and tormented or the state she lives in will because Pitbulls are banned in certain areas of Maryland.  The people that did this to her were convicted and now it was her life on the line at the County Shelter where a few people thought she deserved a chance.  Her only way out was for someone, anyone to step up for her and say that she mattered.  She could not be released to an individual because she was considered too dangerous.  A qualified rescue was her only hope and it was just too risky for most rescues because once you have her, you then have to deal with all the problems that come with a fighting dog.  Look at the picture.  She loves people, loves affection.  Her life of horror has not changed her loving SPIRIT.  She doesn’t like other dogs and for good reason.  She is a Mom they was also used to raise puppies to fight and be used as bait.  She knows how to nurture life and we are going to nurture her back to where she can be part of a loving family that will protect and guard her for the rest of her life.  We have had Smiley for four weeks while we have been doing medical tests and looking for someone that can do reconstructive surgery on her face.  The test have come back and this wonderful dog has BABESIA.  Animals get Babesia from ticks and then they transfer it when they fight which is why so many bait dogs have it.  We have started her treatment for Babesia and will be doing reconstructive surgery to try and give her back some of her mouth that had been shredded (like her tongue) during a vicious attack.  Please, help us rebuild her life.  This is a young dog that is only five years old.  She deserves the same quality of life as all our animals.

Smiley has started her Babesia treatment and will be doing that for several weeks before we will know if it is working.  She has had two surgeries to try and restore some of her mouth.  We will just have to wait and see how well the surgeries hold based on how how little skin we had to work with.  Her biggest problem right now is getting her over the Babesia which is a long process.  We will post new pictures of her in about a week once her incisions have started to heal.  She is a really sweet girl that has had a terrible life.  She loves people and loves getting affection from them.  In return, she will shower you with kisses all day long.  She is still dog aggressive and probably always will be for good reason.  Once she has recovered, we have a trainer that is going to work with her to see if we can build back some of her confidence with particular dogs so she  will be able to enjoy them in her life.  Her journey to a new life has begun.

Smiley is doing well on her Babesia treatment. Still as sweet as can be. She will have to have another surgery but that will have to be after she has completed her treatments. The second surgery partially held because there was so little skin to move. She will have one more small surgery in about two weeks to repair the area that didn't hold but that will be her last one. Smiley is always so affectionate and loving. How anyone could do this to such a wonderful dog is terrible because I know she was doing it to please the people that held her captive for so long. If you are interested in adopting this incredible dog please let us know. Smiley will have to go to a very special home without dogs.

Smiley is doing great.  She is almost finished with her Babesia treatment and will have her last surgery in one week if her bloodwork remains normal.  Smiley just loves people.  Her greatest joy is giving kisses and lots of love to anyone that will nuzzle up with her.  She would love for curl up next to someone and stay there all day.

Smiley had more surgery done at the surgical facility in Columbia and will be there through the week-end recovering.  She is doing great and her incision is holding beautifully.  What a sweet, beautiful girl she is.

Smiley is doing wonderful.  She has had another major surgery on her face and is so happy.  We have changed her name is Miley since she now has a new face and we want to put her old life behind her.

MILEY is doing incredible.  She is an amazing dog that just adores people and some other dogs.  Mostly, she loves, loves, loves all people.  It is hard to believe this is the same dog we got several months ago.  She is so worth all the work and time we have put into rehabilitating her and reconstructing her face.  We decided to leave her torn tongue the way it is because it does not cause her any problems at all.  It is a constant reminder of the pain and suffering she has endured in her life and how far this wonderful girl has come.  We just adore sweet MILEY and want her to have a wonderful new home surrounded by love and affection.  If you think you are that family, please, contact us.

MILEY with all of the balls. She has stolen them from her buddies.
