Look who’s looking a little more alert and chipper this morning — Timber!
He’s eating and drinking like a champ and going to the bathroom regularly. The biggest challenge right now is that his body is still producing a large amount of fluid from his abdominal drain.
The good news is that the fluid now shows very little bacteria — just lots of inflammatory cells — meaning Timber’s body is still reacting to the infection that started with his ulcer. He’s off IV fluids since he’s eating and drinking well, but the ongoing fluid loss is making it hard for him to keep his protein and albumin levels stable. Plasma transfusions help replace those vital proteins and keep his strength up.
Timber’s Critical Care Team is working closely with specialists to find a better way to control his inflammation. He’s feeling brighter and more comfortable, but this improvement won’t last unless we can slow down that excess fluid production. Until the drain output decreases, Timber must stay in ICU where he’s closely monitored around the clock.
At this point, I’ve stopped stressing about the financial side of saving Timber — we’re doing everything possible to get him through this. His will to live is incredible, and his team at CVRC is doing all they can to support him. I’ll keep fighting for him as long as he keeps fighting for himself — and he absolutely is.
We’ve saved many dogs with amazing spirits, but Timber’s determination is something special. He’s been stoic through everything — so much so that we didn’t realize how sick he was until things became critical. Now we know, with Timber, even small changes can mean a lot.
The best news today: Timber is no longer septic, and his repaired ulcer looks great with no signs of reopening.
